What to bring......

As Cape Town is located in the southern hemisphere, July is usually one of the colder months of the year (ie. wiinter). As a guide of weather conditions, the temperatures generally range from 4ºC - 18ºC (40ºF - 68ºF) with days that can be windy and rainy (no snow though). However, Cape Town is like most cities of the world, and can have unpredictable weather. For example, last year in July, the weather was around 30ºC (92ºF).

From this, we have provided a list of suggested items to bring. There is also a list of required items for youth participants to bring for the activities during the Youth Summit.

Clothes:

  • pants/trousers/jeans
  • shorts
  • t-shirts
  • sweaters/jumpers
  • rain coats/jackets
  • underwear/socks
  • clothes for an evening social event
  • walking shoes (sturdy)/trainers (at least pair should be waterproof)
  • dress shoes
  • hat
  • scarf (?)

Other:

  • toiletries (soap, toothbrush, towel, etc.)
  • umbrella
  • sunglasses
  • camera and film

Required items for activities:

  • small bottle of water (for water ceremony)
  • pictures/photos of home region

We hope this helps you all with your packing so that when you get to Cape Town you are up and ready for this year's Youth Summit. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail youthsummit@us.iearn.org
