The
Media Mosaic Project: Media Literacy for Global Youth
The Media Mosaic
Project provides the tools for iEARN students to become informed
consumers and producers of global media,
with a critical appreciation of accuracy and diverse perspectives,
and with a hands-on understanding of media‚s role in addressing
and shaping the concerns of the world community.
The purpose of the Media Mosaic Project is to create better informed
world citizens by analysis, comparison, evaluation and production of
media. The Media Mosaic Project combines a sequenced media literacy
curriculum for classrooms, as well as diverse opportunities to produce
media.
Media Mosaic youth will learn media evaluation and critique through
the Media Mosaic website of activities and resources; and monthly themes
of focus.
A
Media Mosaic
blog (web log) will publish student perspectives, investigations, and
discussion about the monthly theme (such as gender stereotyping in
the media or global marketing to teens). Classroom tips, activities
and a teacher discussion will also be posted on the Media Mosaic blog.
Lastly, students will have the opportunity to be certified and trained
as journalists who will write articles, critique each other‚s
work, take photographs and produce media with responsible, accurate
content, posting on the Media Mosaic Blog and/or the iEARN student
news wire service.
