-Bangladesh
During Global Youth Service Day (15 -17) bEARN will organize a two
days work camp outside Dhaka and a cleaning campaign in Dhaka City.
-Egypt
Hosni Mubarak Secondary School for Boys, Alexandria, Egypt. Community Service
Week at the end of March (27 March - 31 March). We are honored to have had other
schools participate in the event.
Hosni
Mubarak School. Community Service week. Activities included:
painting of blackboards, computer lessons, lessons on hygiene,
visits to elder homes, blood donation drives, tree planting, all
culminating inan awards festival.
-India
(Schools are out in April so students conducted
activities in March). Hyderabad- Madapati h.rao.girls High School -
School Book Collection- Girl students of std. IX and VIII have gone
to various graduate students of our school and collected old text books,
and story books,
and Question Banks for the presently
running schools book bank. They intend to supply these books to the
economically underprivileged female students for the coming session
starting from June 2005. They have collected around 200 text books
for all classes all in good condition, and around 30 story books, and
25 question banks.
The effort of going all the way in hot
summer to their places for collection, and is really laudable. They said that
they felt very happy that they could do something for their fellow
students.
The school is also planning to:
1. take up
Traffic control for the day.
2. participate in serving the mid-day meals to children in primary schools.
Lions Vidya Niketan School in Washem, India is planning to contribute
for YOUTH SERVICE DAY and present some project on CHILD LABOUR.
Other projects in India will include:
1.Exhibitions of the posters made by students to create awareness for saving
water, reusing and recycling.
2. Students saving money out of their daily expenses and contributing towards
Tusnami affected areas.
3. Student rally in the town appealing to people to contribute towards
schools from affected areas.
4. Survey on hospital waste management.
5. Cleaning the lake, near a tourist spot.
-Morocco
March 29, Latifa Bouhlal of Lycee Abdelkrim el Khattabi High School shared, "My
service day will be organized March 29. My students have agreed to participate
in planting some flowers around the school gate! I'll 1st teach students how
to plant, 2nd sensitize them about voluntary work to awaken in them the spirit
of hope necessary to make their community a better place!"
-Pakistan
iEARN
Pakistan, as a part of its BRIDGE program, collaborated with Cardinal
School Lahore for engaging students in community service
projects to mark the Global Youth Service Day. Naila Khan from the
Cardinal Public School facilitated and coordinated the 6 weeks long
project under the iEARN-PKs ongoing Youth Volunteering and Community
Service Program . She worked with 200 youth from 9 schools of Lahore
and their teachers who designed and worked on different community service
projects from 1st March to 15th April 2005. The project outcomes were
shared on the Global Youth Service Day Award Distribution at Defense
Community Hall Lahore on 18th of April. iEARN-Pakistan presented shields
to participating schools and certificates to honor the participating

-USA
Palo, Michigan. Judy Huynh. (BRIDGE Master Trainer)
is planning activities for the school.
New
York City, NY. George Washington High School, Law and Public
Service, NY, NY: Our Moroccan
visitors and host students did a service project on April 2 in a park.
(The students return to Morocco on the 16th) April
16, approximately 35 people including teachers from the BRIDGE
Master Trainer Exchange and students from Jordan on the LINC exchange
will visit New York City Community Centers to do clean-up and other
work. Riverdale Park Restoration - April 16, approximately 15 people
including teachers
from the BRIDGE Master Trainer Exchange and students from Jordan on the
LINC exchange will be planting trees.
-Uzbekistan

Activity: Conducted training on Children rights topic under the Model UN - iEARN
project
We (Karshi school #34) are planning to apply for an IEARN grant to complete a
project "Children's rights", 3 students of our school has elaborated
a plan of trainings about rights of children for Karshi schools,to conduct a
forum "What do you know about childrens' rights", and arrange an interview
with a lawyer in order to figure out the "protecting children's rights" activities
in our city, in result students will increase the importance of knowing their
rights and create a web site dedicated to their activities and childrens' rights
in general.
2. Location: Ferghana
School: Parvoz
Activity: iEARN club participants together with Peace Corp volunteer will conduct
African Heritage festival under National Heritage - iEARN project.
3. Location: all cities
School: possibly all schools
Activity: iEARN Uzbekistan will conduct an online camp for selected students.
The main
goal of the camp will be environmental issues.
4. Location: Termez
School: possibly all schools of the region
Activity: iEARN Uzbekistan will create an online forum between
schools in Termez and US schools on cultural diversity topic.
5. Location: Nukus
iEARN Uzbekistan will create an online forum between
schools in Nukus and US schools on environment issues.
Karligash
Ishanova of Gymnasium
#1, Nukus shares, "I`ll be very happy to find a partnet school who
wants join our Global Youth Community Day activities, which we are
going to work over "Live
without problem" project. We've begun our activity on March 22,
2005 and it will continue till April 23 in coorperation with schools
#33,
Nukus and #19, Xalkabad,
with Charitable Fund of "Susutainable Development" of the
Republic Karakalpakstan and Non-Governmaental Organization of Disability
People of the Republic Karakalpakstan, also with Nukus city Department
of the Youth Civic Movement "Kamolot" under control of iEARN
Club members (students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages).The steps
of our activity are:
1. Round table with the partners and the participants of the project
to discuus about the realization of the project.
2. Distribute duties among the participants.
3. Gather the applications for seminar-training will be organized
by our partner and PCV Volunteer, Grahm Harlow and Japan Volunteer
Keiichi
Sato on theme: "How to be Volunteer for local NGO?", "How
to write small grants?" and "How to solve problems?"
The participants of the traning will be selected by their applications.
After the training we'll create Karakalpak iEARN Group of
the Republic Karakalpakstan.
4. 3 days training for selected participants. 5. A day action: "Live
without problem". As the result of
the action we are going to create "iEARN Exhibition"
6. "Are you a Volunteer?" to involve the participants to
the Charitable Fund of the sustainable development of the Republic
Karakalpakstan.
7. Create the web-site for our project.
6. Location: Namangan - Online forum between schools in Namangan
and US schools on education topic.
Those three events are not yet scheduled on exactly date but will
take place between
April 5 and April 19, 2005.
