I*EARN Moves
its Offices to Manhattan from Westchester County
I*EARN (International
Education and Resource Network), the world's most experienced and
largest international K-12 educational telecommunications network,
announced today that it is relocating its offices and staff from Yorktown
Heights in Westchester County to offices in New York City. "We
have found we need to be closer to other telecommunications organizations,"
reported I*EARN Director, Dr. Edwin H. Gragert. "Also, as a non-profit
institution, it is important to be nearer to other international non-profit
organizations and funding agencies," he added.
I*EARN's move
is instructive in this age of telecommuting and e-mail. "Over
the past eight years, we have found that face-to-face contact is not
replaced with telecommunications. This is even true for an organization
like I*EARN whose work is entirely "on-line."
I*EARN will be
opening its new offices October 1st at 475 Riverside Drive in Manhattan,
a building exclusively for non-profit organizations, most of which
operate national or international programs.
I*EARN has member
schools in over 30 countries:
Albania, Argentina,
Australia, Belarus, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Croatia,
Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel,
Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia,
Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia,
Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Ukraine, United
States, and Uruguay,
I*EARN is a global
community of youth, teachers and youth-service leaders committed to
using telecommunications to engage in collaborative on-line projects
which make a meaningful difference in the world as part of the educational
process. I*EARN facilitates on-line curriculum-based projects designed
by teachers in social studies, science, environment, math, arts, literature,
and interdisciplinary areas.
