Schools Host Teachers from South Asia and Middle East With Whom They
are Collaborating on Civic Education and Conflict Resolution Projects
via the Internet

York, NY October 30- Educators from Egypt, India, Jordan, Lebanon,
Pakistan and Sri Lanka who are using the Internet in their English
language classes to collaborate on civic education projects will be
visiting the United States after attending a professional development
workshop in Cairo, Egypt. Teachers from U.S. schools will be facilitating
the workshops at the meeting in Cairo from November 10-14, and will
then host the visiting teachers in their schools and communities over
the following two weeks. The educators from Egypt, India, Jordan,
Lebanon, Pakistan and Sri Lanka who are implementing Internet technology
in their classrooms, will be arriving in cities in Washington, New
Jersey, Florida, New Mexico, New York and North Carolina on November
15, 2000, where they will be hosted by iEARN teachers for a two-week
educational exchange. During the exchange participants will meet teachers,
students, and professionals involved in iEARN projects, observe classes,
and learn more about educational practices and uses of technology
in education in the U.S., build relationships for future collaboration
with students and teachers in iEARN projects, and will deepen the
lines of communication among citizens of Egypt, India, Jordan, Lebanon,
Pakistan Sri Lanka and the U.S. iEARN is the International Education
and Resource Network, which has pioneered online collaborative education
for the purpose of enhancing learning and connecting youth to make
a difference in the world. iEARN is currently active in more than
4,000 schools and youth organizations in 92 countries.
