INTERACTION 99-MATERIAL REQUIRED: Interaction is I*EARN's newsletter, distributed twice each year. The first issue of Interaction '99 will be published in May. Articles, photos, drawings, etc can be sent to Bob Carter in Australia <bairnssec@peg.apc.org>. We would especially like brief reports (no longer than 200 words) from each of the I*EARN centers and country members. Articles should be no longer than 400 words and sent as email or (preferably) as attachments in .txt format. Graphics, photographs should, preferably, be in jpeg, bmp or gif format. Submissions deadline: April 3.

GLOBAL INDIGENOUS ART PROJECT: Most of the indigenous student art has been mailed, and is now arriving at participating sites in Argentina, Australia, Guatemala, Hungary, Mexico, Thailand, and the USA. Participating schools will soon begin conducting global art exhibits in their communities. The Los Angeles Children's Museum (USA) plans to feature the G.I.A.P. exhibit later in '99. CHILDREN'S FOLK GAMES: The game is a recreational activity enjoyed by children. It is orally transmitted from child to child, often accompanied by traditional formulas or counting out rhymes. This creation reflects the spiritual universe of childhood. Student submissions are required by April 1, 1999. Share short descriptions of any game, counting out rhymes, recorded songs, tongue twisters, artwork or photographs representing group games. See this topic in <iearn.kidscan>.

THE CONTEMPORARY NEWS MAGAZINE: TC is interested in seeing articles, as well as responses, for the May 1999 issue. See topics in <iearn.tc>.

GENERATIONS CANConnect PROJECT: A project in honour of the UN International Year of the Older Person that will involve youth interviewing seniors about particular objects or memories that are significant to them. In addition, students will be mentoring seniors in the use of Information and Communications Technologies...how to find health information, using e-mail, managing files, Internet banking and playing bridge with others around the world. l999 GLOBAL ART PROJECT: A SENSE OF CARING: A project in which children around the world are exchanging artwork and writing about how we care for and about one another in our families, school, community and world. Each school exchanges artwork and writing with other participating schools, displays their collection of global artwork at their school/community, and responds to one another's art and writing through email. HUMAN RIGHTS PROJECT: Democracy in Schools and Homes. Students will explore features of student leadership, electioneering and suffrage and analyse the duties of the student leadership and the role of the staff in this process, as well as the method of putting student leaders in office, to determine [a] are fundamental human rights respected in this kind of leadership? REFUGEE PROJECT: Among the goals: -To figure out solutions to refugee problem in the next millennium. - To build students and teacher capacity to problem-solve and research. - To identify challenges faced in the operation of the refugee. - To assess and examine the response or attitude of refugees to development activities as a way for sustaining themselves. - To assess Education Levels of Refugee. - To build student Art and Imaginative composition around related themes. THE SOMALIA PROJECT: Created so that members of the I*EARN community can assist and support struggling Somalian schools. The aim of the project is to provide much needed supplies to the schools and exchange pictures, photographs and greetings between Somalian students and project participants. SCENARIOS FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: - Youth Visions for the Year 2100. A web-based course on sustainability and the future developed for high school students to learn about the global issues involved in sustainability (population growth, global climate change, etc) and analyze them using the tools of futures research-trend identification, scanning, and expert interviews.
