11. IMPORTANT
NOTE on the 2008 iEARN Conference in Bukhara, Uzbekistan: Due to huge and dangerous explosions, fires and significant loss
of life at a military installation near Bukhara on July 10 and continuing
on subsequent days, the safety of conference participants could not
be guaranteed. iEARN made the difficult decision to cancel the conference
several days in advance of the official opening ceremony and participants
already in Bukhara were evacuated, as were most of Bukhara's residents.
Our hearts go out to the Uzbeks who suffered casualties and to our
iEARN-Uzbekistan conference hosts who worked for two years planning
the event, as well as to the many participants who lost the chance
to share their collaborative project work, learn from others and
network among the 400+ registered participants. All iEARN participants
left Bukhara safely. iEARN participants who had workshop or presentation
materials to share at the conference are encouraged to share them
(in powerpoint, doc, jpg, mp4, mov, webpages, etc.) in the 2008
iEARN Conference Forum.
12. JULY
19-22 CATALYST ANIMATION WORKSHOP IN PAKISTAN. Following
a week-long exchange in Uzbekistan with students and educators from
Pakistan, the USA, and Uzbekistan, a four day CATALYST Animation
workshop was also held in Karachi, Pakistan from 19th July to 22nd
July 2008 for students and teachers from different parts of Pakistan
which are prone to natural disasters. For more about the CATALYST
Program, see here.
Check out two student-produced animation videos here and here.
