iEARN-Jordan
Is a non-profit
organization, member of the iEARN global community ,allows teachers and young
people to work together online at very low cost using the Internet and other new technologies.
iEARN-Jordan is an inclusive
and culturally diverse community, a safe and structured environment in which
young people can communicate. It gives students an opportunity to apply
knowledge in service-learning projects, and provides them with a
community-network of educators and learners making a difference as part of the
educational process.
iEARN-Jordan Projects are
all designed and facilitated by teachers and students to fit their curriculum,
classroom needs, and schedules. In addition to connecting
students' learning with local issues, and meeting specific curriculum needs,
every project proposed by teachers and students in iEARN-Jordan has to answer
the question, "How will this project affect the quality of life on the planet?"
This vision and principle is the glue that holds iEARN together, enabling
participants to become global citizens who make a difference by collaborating
with their peers around the world. An independent evaluation of this
demonstration project noted that the students discussed issues and international
events more frequently than a control group, read more at home, sought out more
news items, magazines, and books by authors from other countries, which means
that the project impacted students' awareness and understanding . Furthermore,
enrollments in second language courses increased because students realized that
they wrote for an authentic audience.
The heart of the program is
the principle that students can be empowered to enhance their learning through
interactive project-based learning, and that they can, by addressing local, national and global issues
in these projects, make a meaningful difference in the quality of life on the
planet. Based on the successful
project work completed between 1990 and 1994, iEARN opened its network to
schools worldwide and currently works with schools in over 90 countries. Most of
these countries have their own iEARN Coordinator, and teacher support structure
to help educators integrate this technology into their classrooms. In some
countries the iEARN program operates under the Ministry
of Education. In other countries it is a separate non-profit organization with
close ties to education and youth-service institutions. iEARN involves
approximately 400,000 students annually in collaborative project work. It is
growing exponentially as more classes become connected!
These students and teachers
speak a total of 29 languages! During the last decade, iEARN teachers have
received worldwide recognition and many awards. They have accumulated centuries
of collective experience in how to design and implement collaborative
project-work online. They are now active leaders in the field of professional
development and conduct training seminars and workshops in order to enable
additional educators to participate in interactive online educational work.
Coordinators in each country
facilitate iEARN. Each country with an iEARN Center is represented on the iEARN
International Assembly, which determines policy for the worldwide program. This
Assembly elects an "International Secretariat" to carry out its policies. Every
two years the iEARN International Secretariat moves to a new country – insuring
a truly global perspective and giving Center Coordinators throughout the world
experience in administering an international non-governmental organization.

Aim of iEARN Jordan

in the day to day curriculum based school system through the introduction and
integration of the project based learning system. Giving teachers and students

and internationally within as well outside the school system (formal and
non-formal). These methodologies can also benefit the business community and all
other productive sectors in Jordan on long term, because well trained people,
who are able to function immediately in the ever- changing world, will be
available to help with the development of Jordan.

the awareness for investing in the education for long term benefit and to
motivate them to take actively part in this process .

Management
iEARN Jordan coordinates and
manages its activities nationally and internationally. Projects The execution
of curriculum based projects and collaborating on line is the most essential
part of iEARN educational activities, being a way to better the health and
welfare of the world and that of the country Jordan. With project based learning
iEARN Jordan strives to connect what students learn in class to what is
happening around them in the community and in the world; a practical use of what
is being learned in school by executing projects. The iEARN projects are the
main examples of how learning by students can be enhanced. There are a lot of
iEARN projects that will be executed with in the boundaries of schools in Jordan
along with partner schools and classes abroad. Individual Development iEARN
Jordan shall, with the assistance of the international secretariat of iEARN
incorporated, organize a number of training’s and workshops for students and
teachers on general subjects and specific subjects concerning global issues and
the education as part of the individual development of its members as well its
non members. Project based learning as an alternative educational method is one
of the main subjects. Training’s for teachers shall focus on letting them
experience new methods and techniques of education that can be very useful for
classroom activities and the method of teaching generally and on specific issues
such as environment, peace and conflict resolution. Students will be mostly
trained in knowledge of new education techniques as well other internet related
educational methods.
collaborative project
activities and social related and interactive skills. These skills must help
students, especially from secondary level to communicate and collaborate in life
more effectively.
Internationalism As part of
the global relations and collaborative work between the several countries
participating in iEARN it is essential to organize regional and international
conferences and summits frequently. Conferences are the places where educators
and students can interact directly with each other and with their colleagues
around the world.
