In March, 1996, the Holocaust/Genocide Project was presented at the Spring meeting of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in Boston, Massachusetts.
The presenters were Gideon Goldstein, I*EARN coordinator, Israel, and Honey Kern, HGP advisor. The workshop, entitled "Learning about the Holocaust and its Literature in the Age of Telecommunications," revealed to English teachers the many ways they could use the HGP in their classrooms.
Ms. Kern spoke about the valuable HGP Gopher and its bibliographical sources; the way students could do common readings and then have on-line discussions of Holocaust literature; the methods of "action" that students could take by doing book reviews, contacting and interviewing survivors, and using critical thinking and creative writing via teleconferencing. Mr. Goldstein discussed the HGP's WWW Australian sites, their important links for teachers and students, and the annual study mission to Poland and Israel.
