Accessing the iEARN People and Project Database

Every teacher in iEARN should have a My iEARN Page in the interactive, WWW-based database. If one of your teachers is not included in the database, you, as Coordinator, can add them. Or you can send an email message to: database@us.iearn.org and mention the teacher's name, school name, e-mail address, country.

To enter the iEARN Databases: go to http://amity.iearn.org or click on member database in the upper right corner of http://www.iearn.org/

You must be in the database to use it to search for teachers worldwide. When anyone accesses the database, it is important to use the same email address we have in our records. If someone is not sure if they are in the database, or if they have forgotten their password, they can have their password sent to them at: http://amity.iearn.org/signin.lasso

Once your have logged in, you will be taken to your My iEARN page. Here you can update or change any information, including a preferred email address. Teachers will also have the opportunity to register students to access the iEARN forums. Any teacher in the database can register a separate User Name and password for each student.

The First name and Last name is used as a User Name (for example Jean_Piscarro). We use this system so that people around the global iEARN network will know who is posting messages, helping create personal friendships.

After teachers are entered into the database, they will also begin receiving the online iEARN news flash, iEARN in Action by e-mail every two weeks. If you know of any other teachers who would like to receive iEARN in Action, we would be happy to add them to the distribution list. Just send their names, school name, country and email addresses to subscribe@us.iearn.org and mention News Flash.

Accessing iEARN Project/Discussion Forums

There are three options for participating in the iEARN forums (You must already be registered with iEARN via the People Database.

Option 1: Via WWW-based forums: http://foro.iearn.org/

A User Name and password are required. You can give teachers their User Name and password via the People Database, or send a message to: password@iearn.org

We have a tutorial on how to start interacting via the iEARN WWW-based forums.

Option 2: Via Off-line news readers, such as Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, Free Agent.

Configure your news reader to point to foro.iearn.org. Select the forums in the apc.* and iearn.apc folders in which you would like to visit and/or participate.

For help with:

Netscape Messenger, click here

Select the forums to which you would like to "subscribe"

A User Name and password are required. You can give teachers their User Name and password via the People Database, or send a message to: password@iearn.org

Option 3: Via E-Mail

In the message tell us which forum you would like to receive via e-mail (such as iEARN-teachers, iEARN-planet, iEARN-inside)

Tips for selecting projects to use and ways to support teachers on projects

Some teachers get disillusioned because they do not get response from Project coordinators or partner schools.

As a coordinator you can help teachers in your country get involved in projects.
You can tell the teachers in your country that if they do not get an answer from a project facilitator to let you know and you as coordinator can try and contact them.If this is unsuccessful, you can contact the coordinator of the country from which facilitator comes.

Suggestions for getting started and participating in project work can be found at: http://www.iearn.org/professional/prof_connections.html

iEARN Professional Development handbook

The iEARN Handbook outlines some of the steps to getting started in online collaborative project work, and illustrates a variety of ways of integrating iEARN into your classroom: http://www.iearn.org/professional/prof_handbook.html
