In January 2002, iEARN-Lebanon (International Education Association) in Beirut
conducted a second training
workshop for teachers in Lebanon through the CIVICS project. An
earlier workshop was held in March
2000.
iEARN-Lebanon gathered 24 teachers from various schools in Lebanon to join its CIVICS program in a day's workshop at the Planet Discovery, Children Science Museum. The day started with an overview of the program in Lebanon and how it was initiated with the assistance of the U.S. Department of State and the American Embassy in Beirut. Ms. Deborah Smith from the Political Affairs Office and Ms. Edith Horeyky, Coordinator of the CIVICS program in Lebanon attended the event.
Teachers engaged in two interactive workshops: The underlying objectives of iEARN projects and Forum tutorials. Guest speakers spoke about the state of the environment in Lebanon, the availability of resources and the importance of students work in making a difference. The training included an introduction to YouthCaN Med Online Workshop.
