iEARN launched the program in 1999 and held six workshops for 12 pilot schools in Egypt, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan and Sri Lanka working with six schools in the United States.

Since the initial workshops iEARN organized in each country, participants have trained and introduced new educators thus significantly increasing the number of participants in each country.

 

By the beginning of 2002, the program has grown to include:

Teachers from all participating countries have attended, and facilitated workshops at the past two iEARN International Conferences and Youth Summits in Beijing, China in 2000 and Cape Town, South Africa in 2001. Program participants will meet in Moscow, Russia in July 2002 to give CIVICS presentations.
